![]() | About Evergreen Psychotherapy CenterAs an internationally recognized provider of therapy for attachment disorder, the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center works with couples, adults, and children who exhibit symptoms associated with the effects of dysfunction in their early attachments. Most of the families participating in therapy at the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center have children who were adopted from foreign orphanages or foster care in the U.S. In some cases, the situation involves biological children who, for one reason or another, did not develop healthy attachments during their early years. Children diagnosed with attachment disorder come to the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center lacking what the therapists there refer to as the most important foundation of future emotional health. Symptoms include oppositional, controlling, and mistrustful behavior, a combination that leads to overwhelming stress in the family unit as a whole. The Evergreen Psychotherapy Center lists a number of factors that play a role in the development of attachment disorders. On the parental side, abuse, neglect, depression, and substance abuse place children at risk. Teenage parenting, depression, and prolonged absence may also lead to poor attachments in a child’s early life. From the point of view of the child, the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center finds that risk factors include medical conditions, difficult temperament, failure to thrive syndrome, and genetic issues such as mental illness. The child’s overall environment may be another cause of attachment disorders. These include poverty, violence, an absent father, family chaos, or multiple moves through the foster care system. The Evergreen Psychotherapy Center addresses the core issues surrounding attachment disorder in a two-week intensive course of therapy. Center co-directors Michael Orlans, M.A., D.A.P.A., and Terry Levy, Ph.D., B.C.F.E., have earned a world-renowned reputation for their work in this area, and their treatment has been accepted by similar programs around the world. Both received the designation of Master Therapist by the American Psychotherapy Association, an honor bestowed on the foremost psychotherapists in the world. |
